School day and support

The sixth form school day is designed to promote independent learning alongside structured teaching. Students follow a personalised timetable that includes taught lessons, supervised study and independent study periods.

Students are supported by subject teachers, sixth form tutors and a dedicated pastoral team who monitor progress, attendance and wellbeing. Regular academic reviews and guidance meetings help students stay on track and achieve their goals.

Facilities and building

Sixth form students have access to dedicated study areas, social spaces and specialist teaching rooms. These facilities provide an environment that supports focused study, collaboration and preparation for higher education and employment.

Our purpose-built new building features state-of-the-art learning spaces, two study rooms, as well as refreshments and socialising spaces.

The building was opened in 2024 and the interior and fittings/furniture was designed with the help of our students.

Dress code

We do not have a formal dress code or uniforms for students. However, we expect our students to be wearing suitable clothing as they would do in the workplace, to act as role models and to represent out school and sixth form at all times.

We support students to express their identities through allowing different clothing styles and hair colours. However, there needs to be rules to ensure a level of professionalism and to ensure the health and safety of students.

The sixth form student council have agreed the following rules:

  • Lanyards must be worn at all times to identify students
  • Shoes must be suitable and not pose any health and safety issues
  • Hair should be tied back for sporting activities and jewellery removed
  • Hats and hoods must not be worn on corridors or in lessons at any time
  • Phones and earphones must not be used on corridors
  • Wired headphones may be on show and earbuds must be removed
  • Puffy/outdoor coats must not be worn on corridors or in lessons at any time
  • Bare midriffs, short skirts/shorts, low slung trousers, low cut tops or underwear on show are not allowed
  • Clothes with slogans which others might find offensive are not permitted

Bursary and travel

The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund is available to support eligible students with essential costs such as travel, books, equipment and course related expenses.

Log-in emails will be sent to our students’ email addresses. In order to process your request, we will require proof of need/income to be submitted. Requests for specific financial help can then be considered, once the bursary application has been approved.

Please speak to school staff should you have any queries, or email sixthformbursary@ecgbert.school.
