Who manages admissions

All admissions for King Ecgbert School are managed by Sheffield City Council. This includes applications made during the normal Year 7 admissions round and in-year applications for Years 7 to 11.

Although King Ecgbert School is its own admissions authority as an academy, it has chosen to continue using the Local Authority’s admissions arrangements. Applications are therefore administered by the Local Authority Secondary Admissions Team.

Our approach to admissions

King Ecgbert School is a non-selective secondary school serving the local community in south-west Sheffield. Our intake reflects a comprehensive mix of socio-economic backgrounds and cultures, and we take great pride in offering a rich curriculum that is broad, balanced and inclusive.

Open events and visits

Prospective families are strongly encouraged to attend our open events, which take place in the autumn term. These events provide an opportunity to learn more about our ethos, curriculum and pastoral support, and to hear directly from staff and pupils.

Visits outside of the usual admissions cycle may also be arranged, particularly for in-year applications.

How to apply

Applications for a Year 7 place must be made through Sheffield City Council. The closing date for expressing preferences is usually mid-October. Parents and carers are advised to check the Local Authority admissions booklet or website for confirmed dates.

National Offer Day is 1 March each year, or the next working day if this falls on a weekend.

Full details on how to apply can be found on the Sheffield City Council school admissions website.

Transition to King Ecgbert School

King Ecgbert School works closely with a large number of feeder primary schools from all across the city to support a smooth and positive transition into Year 7.

Children in Years 5 and 6 have opportunities to work with our staff before joining the school, including transition activities and visits. During the main transition period, pupils are grouped carefully to ensure they are with peers who will support their learning and wellbeing. Wherever possible, pupils are placed with at least one familiar peer from primary school.

Each year group is supported by a year manager, with additional oversight from an experienced pastoral manager, the Safeguarding team and members of the senior leadership team. This ensures strong pastoral care and continuity as pupils settle into secondary school life.
