Overview
Our science department comprises highly qualified teachers and three experienced technicians, offering a broad and academically rigorous curriculum suited to all students. We provide multiple pathways to higher education and STEM careers, ensuring science is accessible to everyone. We are one of the few schools in Sheffield to allow all students the option to study separate sciences at GCSE, with over 50% of Year 9 students choosing this route annually.
Key Stage 3
Science is taught in mixed ability groups in Year 7 and then in sets in Year 8 and 9. Skills and knowledge are developed concurrently. In Year 9, bridging modules in January consolidate learning and prepare pupils for Key Stage 4.
Key Stage 4
Students choose between the combined science GCSE or the three separate sciences (biology, chemistry, physics), with full flexibility to select the pathway that suits their interests and aspirations.
