Welcome From The Headteacher

Welcome to King Ecgbert School

King Ecgbert School has a long held excellent reputation in the city and as headteacher, my role is to be the custodian who protects what has long been a wonderful place to be educated.

Our ERA values of academic excellence, showing respect and having high aspirations shape all that we do.

We see our purpose being far more than giving students knowledge, understanding and qualifications but also to help them develop into fine young adults who are happy, confident and able to make a positive difference to the world around them when they leave.

The school is recognised for its high attainment. Examination results are consistently among the best in the region. Our motivation is to provide a curriculum that ensures the children we educate are stretched and achieve at a level that enables them to compete with the best.  Most Year 11s stay on into our sixth form and the majority of Year 13s are accepted to their first choice of university.

The school is proud of its diverse intake. We have a wide-reaching reputation for our work with children with special educational needs and we celebrate our cultural and religious diversity. We ensure the school is a safe and welcoming place for all through our approach to promoting dignity and respect.

As part of Mercia Learning Trust, we share a common mission and set of values. We are committed to kindness, integrity, and diligence, and we exist to empower everyone in our communities, especially the most disadvantaged, to succeed. These principles underpin everything we do and shape the culture of our school.

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about King Ecgbert School. I hope this website gives you a sense of the pride we take in our pupils and the opportunities we provide. Please do get in touch or visit us to see our community in action.

We are committed to providing outstanding education for all in a safe, happy and positive learning environment.

Academic excellence for all

Together, we strive for personal and academic excellence: King Ecgbert School wants the best outcomes for every member of our school community, whatever their background or role in our school.

Showing respect at all times

Our inclusive and diverse school community is one in which:

  • every individual is welcomed, understood and valued;
  • we respect each other and embrace our diversity;
  • we actively promote fairness and social justice;
  • our staff and students care about their community and together we all care about the wider world and our place in it.

Having high aspirations and personal goals that go beyond our time in school

Together, we are committed to educating, supporting and encouraging every individual to develop the skills and character that will help them become the best they can be and make a real difference in the world.

We expect every member of our own school community to become active, successful members of the wider communities we are part of: Sheffield, the United Kingdom and the global community beyond.
