Overview

Sociology develops a critical understanding of society.

Students explore culture, identity, media, crime, politics, education, globalisation, inequality and social power, and learn to evaluate key sociological theories such as Marxism and Feminism.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 or above in English Language or Literature.

Trips, visits and extra-curricular

Students have access to after-school sessions for private study and exam practice. They are also provided with suggested media content and resources to support their learning.

Assessment

At the end of Year 12, students sit two internal exams: one 1-hour paper (40 marks) and one 2-hour paper (80 marks), featuring short and extended writing questions.

At A level, assessment is by three 2-hour exams, each worth 80 marks and comprising a mix of short answer and extended writing questions.
