Overview

This qualification provides a broad foundation in the sport sector and is designed to support progression to higher education when studied alongside other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

Entry requirements

The PE department considers all applicants but may not accept those who do not meet the following:

  • Grade 4 or above in GCSE PE, or Merit in BTEC Level 2 Sport

  • Grade 5 in Biology is preferred

Each application is considered individually.

Course content

The course covers four main units:

  • Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology

  • Unit 2 – Fitness, Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being

  • Unit 3 – Professional Development in the Sports Industry

  • Unit 7 – Practical Sports Performance

Trips, visits and extra-curricular

As a TASS Dual Career Awarded centre, we provide additional support for talented athletes. All students attend a revision conference, with coaching opportunities available throughout the department.

Assessment

  • Unit 1 – Exam, externally marked

  • Unit 2 – Controlled assessment, externally marked

  • Unit 3 – Coursework, internally marked

  • Unit 7 – Coursework, internally marked
